The 2009 Wrath of the Grape Wine Tour & Fun Rally - Rescheduled Date

In a break from our alternating years tradition and due to popular demand, the Wrath of the Grape Wine Tour Series returns on Saturday October 10th.  The Weather Gods gave us a State Fair monsoon wash out on the original date, so we have now rescheduled and we are ready to try again.  The focal area is again Historic Highway 66, this time heading west from OKC.

The Fun Rally aspect of the event requires no special skills beyond an observant eye for your environment, as you participate in a visual scavenger hunt.  Course following likewise should be no problem for any Driver and Navigator.  This is not a Time/Speed/Distance Rally and no math is involved.  If you want to expand the team with some more eyes in your car to join the fun, that is okay too.  Just remember those under 21 will not be served at the Tasting Rooms.  No computers or map reading skills are required, nor is a GPS.  A clip board or some hard writing surface is helpful and a pen or pencil is required.

The Tour gets underway on Historic Highway 66 in Yukon at Sid’s Diner at the corner of Cornwell and Main.  Sid’s is renowned for it’s Road Food and Onion Burgers, so time your arrival to allow for some lunch before the 12 Noon Driver’s Meeting and Start.  The Tour distance covers approximately 70 miles and can best be enjoyed at speeds of 50 mph or less.  With Wine making and Grape growing being an agricultural endeavor, you should expect interesting backroads and no super highways.  In fact you will be driving on some of the remaining original sections of Highway 66 pavement, which is in far better shape than our modern roads.

Wineries and Vineyards selected for the 2009 Wrath of the Grape include the Chapel Creek Winery, www.chapelcreek.samsbiz.com/ , the Sand Hill Vineyards, www.sandhillvineyards.samsbiz.com/ , and the Whirlwind Winery, www.Whirlwindwinery.com/.   Check out their web pages for more details.

The Winery Tours have been set up with special arrangements for our group to highlight the wine making skills and display the products of their work.  The Tasting Rooms will let you evaluate their successes, while introducing you to more Made in Oklahoma products.  Feel free to purchase your favorites for later consumption.

The Tour will conclude with dinner at the Historic Noble House in Watonga, www.noblehousebb.net,  located in the original 1912 Noble Hotel.  We will gather for dinner and the Rally Awards about 5:30pm.  Dinner will be ordered from the menu so everyone should be able to find something to suit your taste buds.  Save room for some homemade Coconut Cream Pie or Bread Pudding if you have a sweet tooth and you won’t be disappointed.  If you want to spend the night in the Noble House Bed & Breakfast, be sure to make an advance reservation for one of their five exquisitely decorated rooms.

Make plans to join us for this fun event.  Questions or info call 405-570-0416 or send an email to jr@nurbmw.com.   You can make your Tour registration at the same email address.  Reservations are appreciated so that our hosts will know to expect you.
